Recently, CEO Satya Nadella wrote a letter to Microsoft employees: “Change in ourselves helps drive change in the world.” Leaving behind a career in the banking industry to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and Software Engineering, I strived for change, to be challenged, and to have the opportunity to work on meaningful projects that make a true difference.
Through my time at University of Washington and my year-long internship experience with the Product and Technology team at T-Mobile, I realized that I absolutely love product and program management. Not only did I love the role; the knowledge I’ve gained at university combined with my past experience in banking, I excelled in this role.
I graduated in December, 2019 with a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science & Software Engineering at the age of 30!
Yes, it took me a while to figure out what I wanted to do for a career and what I was passionate about. After several years working in the banking industry, I decided enough was enough. It didn't feel as if I was making a substantial impact nor did I have a passion for the work.
